Check-in opens 30 to 45 minutes before departure everywhere, and a missed boarding is a forfeited ticket on every operator here, so build in resort traffic on the Honoapiilani Highway rather than hoping.

You check in 30 to 45 minutes early, board, and spend about two hours on the water timed so golden hour, the sun dropping toward Lanai and the afterglow all happen mid-cruise. You are back at the dock about half an hour after dark with the evening still young.

December through April, very likely: these routes cross the humpback calving grounds between Maui and Lanai, with the peak January through March.
